How to use

Hydroquinone is available in 4 preparations: cream, gel, lotion, or topical solution.

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Wash and dry your hands before applying for this medicine.
  2. Make sure that the area to be applied on is clean and dry prior to application.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Hydroquinone on the affected area(s) of the skin. Do not cover, wrap, or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after applying for the medicine.

Do not apply Hydroquinone on broken, irritated skin.

Use hydroquinone exactly as directed. Do not use more than the prescribed number if days 

Dosage of Hydroquinone (MELALITE Forte Cream) 4% w/v Cream

Hyperpigmented skin conditions:

Adult: As 2-4% preparation: Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice a day, in the morning and evening. Discontinue if there is no improvement after two months.

Missed Dose of Hydroquinone (MELALITE Forte Cream) 4% w/v Cream

Apply the missed dose and then continue with the regular dosing schedule. 

Do not double the dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Hydroquinone (MELALITE Forte Cream) 4% w/v Cream

If you have used Hydroquinone more than the prescribed number of applications. Seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Hydroquinone:

  • People experiencing sunburnt skin
  • Use of epilators or waxes to remove unwanted hairs on the skin

Side Effects

Hydroquinone may have the following side effects:

  • Temporary redness on the affected area
  • Stinging and irritation on the affected area
  • Allergic dermatitis
  • Dryness
  • Fissuring of paranasal and infraorbital areas

Warnings

Do not take Hydroquinone with the following medications

  • Ferric salts
  • Oxidizing agents

Inform your physician about the medications that you are taking especially over the counter medications and herbal food supplements.

How Does It Work?

By inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme, which is involved in the initial step of the melanin pigment biosynthesis pathway, hydroquinone decreases the production of melanin pigments. It takes several months for hydroquinone to take effect.
