How to use

Apply Tazarotene precisely as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

To use this medicine, follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry the affected area before applying.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Tazarotene on the skin. Rub gently until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap, or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using them.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube.

Use Tazarotene only on the affected areas of the skin. Avoid any contact of this medicine with your eyes, mouth, lips, broken, or damaged skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse it immediately with water.

Your doctor will decide the dose of this medicine. Your doctor will advise you on your treatment course, depending on your condition and response to the medication.

Dosage of Tazarotene (Tazret Gel) 0.05%

Adult: Mild to moderate plaque psoriasis; 18 years old and older: As 0.05 or 0.1% cream/gel: Apply a thin layer to the affected lesion(s) once daily in the evening—usual duration: 12 weeks up to 12 months.

Acne vulgaris: As 0.1% cream/foam: Apply a thin layer to cover the entire affected area(s) once daily in the evening. Usual duration: 12 weeks. 

Photoaging;17 years old and older: As 0.1% cream: Apply a pea-sized amount to cover the entire face once daily at bedtime lightly.

Missed Dose of Tazarotene (Tazret Gel) 0.05%

Just apply the missed dose and then continue with the regular dosing schedule. 

Do not double the dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Tazarotene (Tazret Gel) 0.05%

If you think you may have used Tazarotene more than the usual dose, please immediately seek medical help.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not take Tazarotene:

  • Patient with eczema and sunburn
  • Application to psoriatic lesions >10-20% of BSA
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Side Effects

Tazarotene may have the following side effects:

  • Desquamation
  • Pruritus
  • Skin redness
  • Stinging/burning sensation
  • Worsening of psoriasis
  • Swelling at/near application sites
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin exfoliation and inflammation
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Photosensitivity

How Does It Work?

Tazarotene is a prodrug that undergoes esterase hydrolysis, converted to tazarotenic acid, which binds to three relatively selective receptors of RAR beta and RAR gamma retinoic acid, thereby regulating gene expression, modulating cell proliferation , differentiation, and hyperplasia. It increases the production of collagen and improves the organization of bundles of collagen in the skin.
